Michel Robin fait de nombreuses apparitions au cinéma, de Qui êtes-vous Polly Magoo ? de William Klein en 1966 jusqu'à Un long dimanche de fiançailles de Jean-Pierre Jeunet en 2004, en passant par L'Hôtel de la plage de Michel Lang en 1978, La Chèvre de Francis Veber en 1981, Stan the Flasher de Serge Gainsbourg en 1990 et Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain de Jean-Pierre Jeunet en 2001. Il fait également de nombreuses apparitions à la télévision, notamment dans quelques épisodes de la série Maigret, et dans tous les épisodes de la version française de Fraggle Rock. Il est apparu dans plusieurs épisodes de la série "Boulevard du Palais" (personnage d'Isi). Il obtient le Grand prix d'interprétation du jury du Festival de Locarno, en 1979 pour Les Petites Fugues d'Yves Yersin, ainsi que le Molière du meilleur second rôle pour La Traversée de l'hiver de Yasmina Reza.
